Edtech Startup Cell-Ed Raises $1.5m in Seed Funding

Cell-EdCell-Ed, a Palo Alto, California-based mobile learning solution for low-skilled workers, raised $1.5m in seed funding.

The round was led by Lumina Impact Ventures with participation from Strada Education Innovation Fund, Partners Group Impact and Twilio.org Impact Fund.

The company intends to use the funds to increase its workforce-related content and credentialing pathways, as well as to enhance advanced mobile technology.

Launched in 2014 by Jessica Rothenberg-Aalami, CEO, Cell-Ed provides a mobile learning solution for low-skilled, low-literate, low-wage workers worldwide. The company has expanded to offer lessons in job, digital literacy and language skills over voice and SMS on devices ranging from basic flip phones to data-powered smartphones.
Its personalized and scalable platform, courses and content are used by Discovery, AT&T, the States of New York and Texas, SEIU, the Los Angeles Public Library and others.
