On-Shelf Product Data Robot Maker Bossa Nova Raises $29M

Bossa Nova, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of real-time, on-shelf product data robots for the global retail industry, raised $29m in funding.

The round was led by Cota Capital with participation from China Walden Ventures, LG Electronics, and existing investors.

The company, which has raised $70m in total funding, intends to use the capital to expand its headcount by 50%, further R&D efforts, and explore opening international offices.

Led by Bruce McWilliams, president and chief executive officer, Bossa Nova provides real-time, on-shelf product data robots, which collect terabytes of data to enable the retail ecosystem to optimize the omnichannel shopping experience.
The robots, currently deployed in 50 Walmart stores across the United States, drive autonomously through aisles, navigating safely among customers and store associates.
The company also has offices in Mountain View and Pittsburgh.
