Language Learning Platform Memrise Raises $15.5M in Series B

Memrise, a London, UK-based language learning platform, raised $15.5m in Series B funding.

The round was led by Octopus Ventures and Korelya Capital with participation from Avalon Ventures and Balderton Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate development, to enhance its software engine, and rollout multimedia enhancements to its iOS, Android and web products.

Founded in 2010 in Oxford by Ed Cooke, Ben Whately, Greg Detre, Memrise is a language-learning platform supporting more than 22 languages, including Mandarin, French, Arabic and Spanish. Underpinned by scientific methodology, the company enables more than 35 million adults worldwide to learn languages.
The company is graduate of Techstars Boston 2011.
