Education Technology Company Vipkid Raises $500M in Series D

Vipkid, a San Mateo, CA-based education technology company, raised $500m in its Series D+ financing.

The round was led by investment management firms Coatue Management, Tencent, Sequoia Capital and Yunfeng Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to enhance the student learning experience.

Founded in 2013 and formally launched in 2014 by Cindy Mi, CEO, Vipkid connects children in China (and 35 other countries) with teachers for real-time, one-to-one online English immersion learning.
The company offers a progressive pedagogy serving a community of over 300,000 paying students and over 40,000 teachers in the US and Canada.

Bakers in the company also include Sinovation Ventures, Matrix Partners, Learn Capital, Northern Light VC, Bryant Stibel, among others.
