Teatime Games Raises $9.1M in Series A Funding

Teatime Games, a Reykjavik, Iceland-based social games company, raised $7.5m in Series A funding round and a prior $1.6m seed funding round.

The rounds were led by Index Ventures, with participation from Atomico, which joined the Series A round. In conjunction with it, Guzman Diaz of Index Ventures, Mattias Ljungman of Atomico, and David Helgason, founder of Unity Technologies, join the company’s board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds to double the Teatime team in Iceland – with a particular focus on software engineers – and further develop its platform for integration with third party developers.

Founded by Thor Fridriksson, Ymir Finnbogason, Johann Bergthorsson and Gunnar Holmsteinn, the creators of QuizUp, a trivia game with more than 100 million users, Teatime Games is building a real time communication platform for mobile gaming.
Plain Vanilla Games, the mobile games studio that created the game, was sold to Glu Mobile in 2016.
