TeacherGaming Raises $1.6m in Seed Funding

TeacherGaming, a Tampere, Finland-based edtech startup, raised $1.6m in seed funding.

The round was led by Makers Fund with participation from Founders Factory and high net worth angel investors.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts and accelerate co-creation programs and pilot schemes with schools around the world.

Founded in 2015 by CEO Santeri Koivisto, CTO Aleksi Postari and COO Mikael Uusi-Mäkelä, TeacherGaming is an educational technology startup bringing has educational versions of Minecraft and NASA-endorsed Kerbal Space Program to classrooms.
The company’s online subscription service, TeacherGaming Desk, offers teachers 30+ mainstream games that can help teach topics from orbital physics to touch typing.
Since going to market in July 2017, over 3500 educators from 84 countries have signed up to TeacherGaming Desk.

TeacherGaming is currently working with thirty independent game developers and publishers to combine entertainment and education, including publishing companies Take-Two, Giant Army, and Fishing Cactus.
