Occipital Raises $15M in Series C Funding

Occipital, a San Francisco, CA and Boulder, CO-based developer of computer vision technologies and products, secured $15m in Series C funding.

The round was led by Foundry Group, via their Foundry Group Next fund.

The company is using the funds to expand its computer vision team in the areas of SLAM and machine learning.

Led by CEO Jeff Powers, Occipital combines advanced simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) capabilities with machine learning to create a complete perception engine for AR/VR and home robotics.
Last year, the company launched “Occipital Tracking”, which uses SLAM technology to provide accurate, low-latency room-scale tracking for VR/AR using a single camera and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). Now, the company wants to accelerate its efforts to grow Occipital Tracking into a more complete “Perception Engine” by integrating machine learning, as well as to continue to grow its existing product lines including Structure Sensor, Canvas and Bridge.
Occipital has already partnered with VR, AR, and home robotics companies to embed Occipital Tracking inside their products launching in later 2018 and 2019.
