Bolt Threads Secures $123m in Series D funding

Bolt Threads, an Emeryville, California-based developer of programmable fibers and fabrics, secured $123m in Series D funding.

The round was led by Baillie Gifford with participation from Fidelity Management and Research Company, Formation 8/BUILDERS VC, Founders Fund, Temasek, and Allen & Company.

The company intends to use the funds to continue development and commercialization of its advanced materials technology.

Founded in 2009 by CEO Dan Widmaier, Bolt Threads has developed proprietary technology and bioengineering concepts to deliver high-performance materials focused on sustainability.
The company has released the Microsilk™ tie, a man-made spider silk product, the Microsilk™ dress designed by Stella McCartney, and the Microsilk™ Cap of Courage, a Microsilk™-wool blend hat made in partnership with Best Made Company.
