Manticore Games, a San Mateo, California-based maker of hardcore multiplayer PC and console games, secured $15m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Benchmark, with participation from Bitkraft Esports Ventures, Correlation Ventures, CrunchFund, Macro Ventures, SV Angel and several gaming and tech entrepreneurs. In conjunction with the funding, Mitch Lasky, Benchmark General Partner, will join Manticore’s board.
Founded in 2016 by Frederic Descamps, Chief Executive Officer, and Jordan Maynard, Chief Creative Officer, who previously built A Bit Lucky, a studio for trans-platform multiplayer games that was acquired by Zynga in 2012, Manticore Games is an independent developer of high quality hardcore multiplayer PC and console games and services.
At Zynga, Descamps served as Studio General Manager and Vice President of Corporate Development and Maynard worked as Creative Director. Previously, he served as a Senior Director at Xfire (acquired by MTV) and Trion Worlds. Maynard worked as Software Engineer at Electronic Arts and Senior Technical Design Director at Trion Worlds.
