Origin Broadband Raises £2m in Funding

Origin Broadband, a Doncaster, UK-based provider of internet and phone services, raised a further £2m in funding.

Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Venture Capital Trust (VCT) specialist Calculus Capital made a follow on investment in Origin.

The company intends to use the funds to increase its customer acquisition efforts, staff headcount and client service provision.

Launched in 2011, Origin provides internet and phone services by leveraging their own infrastructure. Its core network is composed of over 50 points of presence, together with diverse network links to locations including Manchester, London and datacentres including Telecity North and Telecity 8/9 Harbour Exchange.
As a network operator, the company is able to deal directly with Openreach, the BT division that maintains the UK’s main telecoms network.
Clients include Amazon – where Origin is the preferred provider for all new warehouse and corporate sites, NHS Sheffield and various UK universities.
