Ember Technologies Raises $13M in Series C Funding

Ember Technologies, a Westlake Village, CA-based consumer-facing temperature control technology and creator of a temperature control mug, secured $13m in Series C funding.

The close of this round brings Ember’s total funding to $21 million. The list of investors to date includes influential C-Suite executives such as Scott Cutler, CEO of StubHub; RJ Pitman, Chief Product Officer of eBay; Robert Brunner, Chief Designer of Beats by Dre and former Head of Design at Apple. Additionally, singers/songwriters Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Alex Pall and Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers have signed on, alongside NFL players Ndamukong Suh and Prince Amukamara.

The additional capital will accelerate research, development, and go-to-market sales and marketing initiatives for several new temperature control products slated to roll out in the next six to nine months.

Led by Clay Alexander, CEO and founder, Ember has launched (in November 2016) the Ember mug, a temperature adjustable mug that keeps coffee or tea at a consistent drinking temperature. The company’s patented temperature control technology combines phase-change cooling with microprocessor-controlled active heating. The mug is currently available at select Starbucks locations, and online at Starbucks.com, Amazon.com and Ember.com.

As part of the Series C funding, Ember also created a Board of Directors comprised of Alexander; Larry Montgomery, former Chairman and CEO of Kohl’s; Jay Brown, co-founder and CEO of Roc Nation; Wyatt Decker, CEO of Mayo Clinic, Arizona; and Tom Wasserman, Managing Director of HPS Investment Partners.
