Lvl5 Secures $2m in Seed Funding

Lvl5, a San Francisco, CA-based developer of crowdsourced HD maps and computer vision software for self-driving vehicles, secured $2m in seed funding.

Backers included Max Altman’s 9Point Ventures, and Paul Buchheit, partner at Y Combinator and creator of Gmail.

Founded in 2016 by Andrew Kouri and Erik Reed, who both worked on Tesla’s Autopilot Team, as well as George Tall, a computer vision engineer from iRobot, lvl5 enables the mass production of autonomous vehicles by developing advanced computer vision software and crowdsourced HD maps. To get started collecting the crowdsourced mapping data, the company created a dashcam app, Payver, allowing anyone to earn $0.01-$0.05 per mile driven.

lvl5 is already working with many Uber and Lyft drivers across the US who run the dashcam app throughout the day and has existing pilots with major OEMs who will pay an initial fee to install the system into vehicles.
