OMG Digital Raises $1.1M in Seed Funding

OMG Digital, an Accra, Ghana-based tech media startup, closed $1.1m in seed funding.

Backers included Kima Ventures, Soma Capital, Comcast Ventures Catalyst Fund, Social Capital, M&Y Growth Partners, and Macro Ventures, Josh Buckley and Xavier Helgesen.

The company will use the funds continue to grow their advertising and marketing operations and invest in producing more video content.

Founded in early 2016 by Jesse Arhin Ghansah, Prince Boakye Boampong and Dominic Mensah, OMG Digital is a digital media company that focuses on building influential media brands for millions of African millennials around the globe. The company, which runs its operations from its head office in Accra, Ghana, with offices located in Lagos, Nigeria, Nairobi, Kenya and San Francisco, USA, currently operates OMGVoice (African pop-culture, entertainment and lifestyle brand) and Servepot (culinary brand) and and is launching two new verticals focused on lifestyle and technology.

Backed by Y-Combinator and dubbed as the ‘Buzzfeed of Africa’, the company has monthly aggregated content views of over 90 million, a monthly social reach of 80 million, with 4.5 million readers to the website each month since its launch in February 2016.
The 25-strong team members create and curate listicles, pictorials, videos and memes that are tailored to specific African countries and cultures.
