Biena Snacks Closes Series A Financing

Biena Snacks, a Boston, MA-based snack food company, raised a Series A funding round of undisclosed amount.

Backers included Blueberry Ventures, Centerman Capital, New Ground Ventures, ESPN’s Darren Rovell, and Spanx founder Sara Blakely.

The new funds will be used to support continued distribution growth and large-scale marketing efforts for the brand.

Launched in 2012 by Poorvi Patodi, Biena offers all-natural bean protein snacks in six flavors and is hitting the market with a new line of chocolate and caramel covered snacks. The company, which recently launched a co-branded product line with Weight Watchers, offers its products in 15,000 locations nationally, including Sprouts, Whole Foods, Safeway and Stop & Shop as well as online at Amazon.com and SnackAisle.com.
