AEye, Inc., a Pleasanton, CA-based robotic vision developer, closed a $16m series A venture capital funding round.
Backers included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Airbus Ventures, Intel Capital, Tyche Partners and others.
The company will use its funds to commercialize its robotic vision system.
Led by Luis Dussan, CEO, AEye provided an advanced vision system that pre-combines solid state LiDAR and computer vision with artificial intelligence and customized software to enable a new level of safety for operators and passengers of autonomous or driver-assisted vehicles.
The company’s technology intelligently scans a scene, focusing on its information content (rather than data) to improve reliability.
AEye is currently in early testing with large transportation and heavy industry OEMs, with phased commercial rollouts planned throughout 2017 and 2018.
