Cockroach Labs Raises $27M in Series B Funding

Cockroach Labs, a New York-based provider of open source infrastructure solutions, raised $27m in Series B funding.

Backers included Redpoint Ventures, GV, Benchmark, Index Ventures and FirstMark Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Redpoint General Partner Satish Dharamaj joined Cockroach Labs’s board.

The company, which had previously raised $26.5m in total funding, intends to use the capital to expand operations.

Founded in 2015 by Spencer Kimball, CEO, and Ben Darnell, CTO, Cockroach Labs is the company behind CockroachDB, an open source, scalable SQL database. CockroachDB is a distributed relational database that combines functionality of SQL with scalability common to NoSQL offerings, and provides enterprise-grade disaster recovery. It scales horizontally, survives disk, machine, rack, and datacenter failures with minimal latency disruption and no manual intervention.
