Message Commerce Startup ShopChat Raises $1.25M in Funding

shopchatShopChat, a San Francisco, CA-based message commerce startup emerged from stealth mode with its mobile shopping keyboard, raised $1.25m in funding.

The round was led by Rakuten (Tokyo: 4755) with participation from angel investors from Silicon Valley and Europe. As part of Rakuten’s strategic investment and partnership, ShopChat now powers Viber’s recently announced message commerce to its massive user base.

The company is using the funds to expanding its brand offerings.

Led by Zephrin Lasker, CEO and Co-Founder, ShopChat combines chatting and shopping into a single experience to let people share and shop their favorite brands, such as Sephora, Guess and Foot Locker from their smartphone keyboards.
The ShopChat shopping keyboard is now available to the public for free from the iOS App Store, for all major messengers, and is launching on Google Play soon. It works on major messenger apps including Apple iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp, WeChat, Google Chat, Kik Messenger, Tango, Line and others.
