Utrip Raises $4M in Series A Funding

utripUtrip, a Seattle, WA-based free travel-planning platform, raised $4M in Series A funding.

Backers included Plug and Play, Tiempo Capital, Acorn Ventures, SWAN Venture Fund and W&W Capital and angel investors Gary Wipfler, Richard Galanti, Ken Alterman, H. S. Wright III, Carla Murray, Craig Schafer and Neal Dempsey.

The company intends to use the funds to hire new people, grow operations, further enhance mobile applications for end users, enrich the company’s machine learning capabilities and achieve automation of white label infrastructure.

Founded in Seattle in 2012 by Gilad Berenstein, chief executive officer, Utrip enables users to create personalized day-by-day itineraries with recommendations on restaurants, parks, nightlife, museums, and more.
The company leverages predictive technology that works on a vast travel database that has been curated by local area experts. Once a traveler indicates their interests and budget, the algorithm sorts through millions of combinations of sites, activities, and restaurants to deliver personalized itineraries quickly. Utrip PRO, the white-label version, allows businesses such as DMOs, hospitality groups, and attractions to offer personalized travel planning on their sites. The companion mobile app provides access to itineraries, directions and personalized recommendations on the go.
