Survios Raises $50M in Two Funding Rounds

surviosSurvios, a Culver City, CA-based virtual reality game studio, raised $50m in two different rounds of funding closed in 2016.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) led a strategic financing round in the VR studio, with MGM’s Chairman and CEO Gary Barber joining Survios’ board. A prior financing round was led by Lux Capital with participation from Shasta Ventures, Danhua Capital, Shanda Holdings, Felicis Ventures and Dentsu Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to continue growing its publishing and development platform, to add third party titles to its slate and to expand distribution into international venues.

Founded in 2013 by CEO Nathan Burba and Chief Creative James Iliff, Survios is a Los Angeles-based virtual reality studio focused on building connected VR experiences with interactivity, social multiplayer and immersive play.
The company’s flagship title is Raw Data, whose universe will be now expanded including support for cross-platform play.

Additional games are in the pipeline.
