Kien Raises $900K in Funding

kienKien, an Amsterdam, The Netherlands-based maker of a flexible sound system, raised €850K in seed funding.

An angel investor provided €725K while the company raised €125K via a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.

The company intends to use the funds to cover development cost, patents, and set up the manufacturing line of the Kien speaker system.

Founded by Jorn Ouborg and Sten Ouborg, two Dutch brothers, and Florent Gatin, Kien provides a system that consists of two different types of speakers: the subwoofer and satellites. Satellites are portable speakers that have a 12-hour built-in battery life that can be charged wirelessly by placing them next to the subwoofer or on an induction charger.
The company will start selling this system at the end of Q2 2017 through an online shop, and later through selected premium retailers.
