Intel Capital to Invest Over $250M in Autonomous Driving

Autonomous Vehicles Self Driving Cars GaugeIntel Capital, the corporate venture capital arm of Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), has committed over $250m in new investments over the next two years to autonomous driving.

Working with automakers and system suppliers to integrate advanced technologies into cars, Intel Capital will focus on the development of technologies that will drive global Internet of Things (IoT) innovation in transportation and those directly mitigating risks while improving safety, mobility, and efficiency at a reduced cost.
The effort addresses the need for the automotive industry to deal with the demand of unprecedented levels of computing, intelligence and connectivity. With the addition of a variety of sensors, sonar, LIDAR and cameras that will come embedded in autonomous cars, the industry needs to be prepared for data increase with over 4,000 GB coming from a single car each day.
