GIF Search Engine Giphy Raises $72M in Series D Funding

giphyAccording to a post, Giphy, a NYC-based Gif search engine, raised $72m in Series D funding.

The round was led by DFJ with participation from Institutional Venture Partners, CMC Capital and other existing investors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to develop new tools and expand adoption globally.

Led by Alex Chung, Giphy operates a platform for people to search, share, and discover GIFs on the Internet. The majority of the content comes from indexing based on the most popular GIFs and search terms across the web. The platform organizes all those GIFs, features some GIF artists and work with brands to create and promote their original GIF content.
In 2016, the company integrated GIF search in Slack, FB Messenger, Twitter, Microsoft Outlook, Google GBoard, iMessage, Tinder, Bumble, Whisper, Telegram, Viber and others, and launched several products including GIPHY Search for Android + iOS, GIPHY Keys, GIPHY Cam 2.0, GIPHY Cam for Android, GIPHY Capture for OSX.

According to recent data, Giphy serves more than 1 billion GIFs per day seen by more than 100 million daily active users.
