Chefs Plate Raises CAD $6M in Funding

chefsplateChefs Plate, a Toronto, Canada-based meal kit delivery startup, raised $6m (CAD) in funding.

The round was led by Acton Capital Partners with participation from existing investors Emil Capital and BrandProject.

The company intends to use the funds for recruitment and market expansion across Canada, including a new fulfillment centre in Western Canada.

Founded in 2014 and led by Jamie Shea, Chefs Plate delivers pre-portioned, locally-sourced farm fresh ingredients and recipes in refrigerated kits to customers’ homes. The company prioritizes the purchase of Canadian grown and farmed produce, dry goods, meats, seafoods and specialty foods.

The company, which has 125 employees, plans to double its current workforce within the next 12 months, adding over 100 new jobs to both Toronto and Vancouver. In June 2016, Chefs Plate announced delivery of 100,000 meal-kits monthly, a new family plan, and extension of delivery outside of Ontario to B.C., Alberta and Manitoba.
