Optical Clearing Agent Developer Visikol Receives $225K SBIR Grant

Visikol Inc., a New Brunswick, N.J.-based optical clearing agent developer, received a $225k Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The company intends to use the funds to further develop its skeletal visualization technology platform to improve developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART) studies.

Co-founded by Michael Johnson, chief executive officer, Nick Crider, chief operating officer; and Tom Villani, chief scientific officer, Visikol is advancing Visikol®™, a nondestructive optical clearing agent to reduce problems with light scattering and enable high resolution images to be captured from biological tissues. The company, which has exclusive rights to the use of Visikol ®™, through a license from Rutgers University, was originally funded by Foundation Venture Capital Group Inc.
