Online Grocery Marketplace Shipt Secures $20.1M in Series A Funding

Shipt2-1Shipt, a Birmingham, Alabama, and San Francisco, CA-based online grocery marketplace, secured $20.1m in Series A funding.

Backers included Greycroft Partners, Harbert Growth Partners and e.ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to scale its business to new markets, develop additional partnerships with grocery retailers and invest in its team. It plans to add alcohol delivery to its platform later this year.

Led by Bill Smith, founder and CEO, Shipt delivers fresh groceries from local grocery stores through a community of shoppers and a dedicated app. Through the app, members select their preferred retailer, browse a selection of grocery items and choose a convenient one-hour delivery window. A Shipt Shopper visits the local store to hand pick and deliver the items as soon as one hour after the order is placed.
The service, which offers unlimited grocery deliveries for $99 per year, currently delivers to 27 cities across the country partnering with grocery retailers and local stores.
