Tinkergarten Raises $1.6M in Seed Funding

tinkergartenTinkergarten, a Northampton, MA, and Brooklyn, NY-based provider of outdoor early childhood education, raised $1.6m in seed financing.

The round was led by Omidyar Network, with participation from Blue {Seed} Collective, City Light Capital, 500 Startups, and Outbound Ventures and early investors Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, Structure Capital and individual investors John Katzman (Princeton Review, 2U, Noodle), Don Katz (Audible), Matt Glickman (BabyCenter), Fern Mandelbaum (Vista Venture Partners, Stanford) and Albert Lee (MyFitnessPal).

The company intends to use the funds to expand to new communities nationally.

Led by Brian Fitzgerald, co-founder and CEO, Tinkergarten provides outdoor early childhood education and independent exploration and play-based activities. The company’s curriculum – designed by experts – aims to allow kids ages 1-8 years old to develop, grow and prepare, while enjoying engaging experiences in local green space.
Led by trained, certified leaders, often parents, classes are now offered in over 50 locations across 14 states, including New York/Tri state area, New England, California, and Texas. The company is enrolling families now for Spring 2016 classes in major markets and additional locations including Austin, Portland, and Seattle, as well as Maryland, Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
