Hungryroot Raises $3.7M in Series A Funding

hungryrootHungryroot, a New York-based maker of fresh vegetable-based convenience foods, raised $3.7m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Crosslink Capital, KarpReilly Investments and Great Oaks Venture Partners.

The company, which has raised a total of $6m in funding to date, will use the capital to accelerate growth in the US, expand into grocery distribution, launch new product categories, and hire new people.

Co-founded by serial entrepreneurs Ben McKean (Savored), Franklin Becker (The Little Beet, Top Chef Masters) and Greg Struck (Long Island Iced Tea Brands), Hungryroot offers meals, sides, sweets, spreads and breakfast items that are packed with protein, fiber and nutrients and ready-to-eat in under 7 minutes.
All of the products of the company are vegetable-based, gluten-free and under 500 calories.

The company sells the food on its website, www.hungryroot.com, as well as on FreshDirect and Amazon Fresh.
