Indigo Raises $56M in Venture Capital Funding

indigoIndigo (formerly known as Symbiota), a Cambridge, MA-based agritech company, raised $56M in venture capital funding.

The round was led by Flagship Ventures.

Led by David Perry, CEO, Roger Beachy, Chief Scientific Officer, and Geoffrey Von Maltzahn, PHD, Chief Technology Officer, Indigo leverages genomic sequencing and computational bioinformatics to identify microbes vital to a plant’s health to fight diseases, increase nutrient intake and improve water use efficiency across each phase of life. This approach aims to bring advantages to growers improving profitability and to consumers increasing healthfulness of food. It also has the target to reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer and pesticides over time.

The company was created within Flagship VentureLabs, the innovation foundry of Flagship Ventures, which began research in 2012 and created Symbiota in 2014.
