CartoDB Acquires Nutiteq

CartoDB_LogoCartoDB, a NYC-based location intelligence, data analysis and visualization company, acquired Nutiteq, a Tartu, Estonia-based mobile mapping software development company.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

The acquisition will allow CartoDB to offer a cross-platform mobile mapping SDK, with a core rendering engine that complements its geo-analytics capabilities.

Nutiteq_New_LogoLed by Jaak Laineste, CEO, who will now lead the mobile division for CartoDB, Nutiteq has more than 15 million unique installations of its SDK, including on-device analytics and vector rendering, with clients including SeatGeek, LonelyPlanet, iRobot and Accenture, among others. The SDK will be augmented with CartoDB’s cloud location analytics and self-service products to provide a complete solution for companies building external facing apps or productivity tools on mobile.

The Nutiteq team will join CartoDB, with an office opening in Estonia, where Nutiteq is currently headquartered.

Launched in 2012 and led by Javier de la Torre, CEO, CartoDB provides a location intelligence and data visualization platform allowing organizations and individuals to extract insights from location data. Its technology is used together with big data and real-time systems to develop custom location intelligence applications and connect location data to gain insights through simple analysis and visualizations. It is used in industries such as financial, government, journalism, education and scientific.
