5D Robotics Inc., a Carlsbad, California-based developer of automation technology for vehicles, closed $5.5m in seed funding round.
The backers were not disclosed.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate the development of commercial products, software, and solutions into several vertical markets such as Industrial Heavy Equipment, mapping and inspection.
Led by David Bruemmer, CEO and co-founder, 5D Robotics develops technologies that provide position and navigation, as well as obstacle avoidance and guarded motion systems that work in any environment, including those without GPS, allowing vehicles to park side by side, indoors, outdoors and in the snow, fog, or rain.
Tested on over 30 robots and vehicles in military applications, 5D’s technologies are now being adapted by numerous large commercial users.
