Kymeta Closes $62M Series D Financing

kymetaKymeta Corporation, a Redmond, Wash.-based provider of a software-enabled metamaterials-based electronic beamforming antenna for satellite communications, closed a $62m Series D financing.

Backers included existing investors Bill Gates, Lux Capital, Kresge Foundation and Osage University Partners, as well as new as of yet undisclosed strategic partners.

The company intends to use the funds to to build its smart antennas.

Led by Dr. Nathan Kundtz, chief executive officer, Kymeta is commercializing a software-enabled metamaterials-based electronic beamforming antenna for satellite communications in high-volume markets. Its mTenna™ suite of satellite antennas are ultra-thin and use a holographic approach to electronically acquire, steer and lock a beam to any satellite.
