Cisco to Invest $100M in Italy over Three Years

ciscoCisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) will invest a total $100m in Italy over the next three years.

The IT global leader will support the effort of the Italian government to drive digital transformation via a) the increase of digital skills and awareness in Italy, and b) the enhancement ot the country’s technology startup community.

a) First, Cisco signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) to provide training to teachers and students through the Cisco Networking Academy® program to allow students to develop the new digital skills required at work today, with courses focused on industry 4.0 and cybersecurity technologies.
b) Second, Cisco is also pursuing investment opportunities along with Invitalia Ventures, the public venture capital firm led by Salvo Mizzi to grow the best startups and encourage hi-tech innovation in Italy.

The company will also conduct initiatives related to research and development, collaborate with Italian universities focusing on training and research in the cybersecurity area, and accelerate digital transformation in manufacturing and agrifood business, which are industries of excellence in Italy.
Cisco will also continue investing in Research and Development efforts within Cisco® Photonics laboratories, based in Vimercate (MB), Italy, which lead global Cisco R&D activities focused on technologies for optical networks in partnership with the most important academic research centers.
