Rowheels Raises $1.5M in Funding

Rowheels, Inc., a Fitchburg, WI-based developer of reverse propulsion wheel technology for manual wheelchair users, raised $1.5m in funding.

The round was led by strategic operating capital fund WISC Partners. David Guinther, a General Partner at WISC Partners, who will be joining Rowheels’ Board of Directors, in conjunction with the funding.

The company will use the funds to advance the commercialization of its reverse propulsion wheel technology.

Co-founded in 2011 by CTO Salim Nasser and CEO Rimas Buinevicius, Rowheels aims to develop products that improve the propulsion efficiency of a manual wheelchair and help counteract many of the debilitating effects experienced with extended lifetime use. Its reverse propulsion wheel technology pulls the handrim instead of push in order to propel a wheelchair user forward with less effort and reduce strain on the shoulders, joints and muscles.
