WriteLab, a Berkeley, CA-based provider of a platform that gives feedback on writing, raised $2m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Reach Capital with participation from Kapor Capital and Learn Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to expand adoption among students.
Founded in 2013 and led by CEO Matthew Ramirez, WriteLab is an online writing tool leveraging developments in machine learning and natural language processing to blend data-driven analysis with proven pedagogical principles to address specific features of thinking in writing, such as clarity, cohesion, logic, and concision.
It utilizes probability and statistics to identify patterns in each writer’s choices. Users can accept or reject suggestions, and WriteLab learns continuously from these choices, customizing its algorithms to suit their preferences.
Users receive customized feedback, generating analytics.
