FreedomPop Secures $10M in Financing

freedompopFreedomPop, a Los Angeles, CA-based free mobile phone and high speed Internet service, secured an additional $10m in financing.

Backers included Axiata Group, Southeast Asia’s largest carrier with over 230 million users across Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Singapore, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its global growth and scale by expanding into Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2012 by Stephen Stokols, CEO, FreedomPop provides a suite of devices, services, and social sharing and incentive benefits to allow consumers to access to free high-speed Internet and mobile phone services worldwide.
The company is backed by Mangrove Capital, DCM, Partech Ventures and Skype Founder Niklas Zennstom’s Atomico.
