Slack Raises $160M in Funding

slack_logoSlack, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of software to improve team communication, raised $160m in a new funding round.

The round valued the company at $2.8 billion.

Backers included Horizons Ventures, Digital Sky Technologies (DST Global), Index Ventures, Spark Capital Growth, and Institutional Venture Partners.

The company will use the funds to continue to develop the platform and expand operations. It is massively hiring.

Launched in February 2014 by CEO Stewart Butterfield, Slack provides a team communication application that allows people inside an organization to exchange messages, videos and images in one place, instantly searchable and available from everywhere.
The platform, which is used by over 750,000 daily active users, also integrates services such as Dropbox, Twitter and Google Drive.
