Refinery29 Raises $50M in Series D Venture Capital Funding

Refinery29_logoRefinery29, a NYC-based digital lifestyle media company, raised $50m in Series D funding.

Backers included Scripps Networks Interactive and WPP, via WPP Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Scripps Networks Interactive’s Chief Development Officer Joseph NeCastro will join Refinery29’s Board of Directors, along with a representative from WPP Ventures.

The company, which has raised $80m with previous investors including Stripes Group, Floodgate, Lead Edge Capital, First Round Capital, Lerer Ventures and Hearst Corporation. intends to use the funds to accelerate international expansion by launching new markets and building communities abroad, develop its video and entertainment offerings, and further connect its content and technology platform to the mobile and social web.

Led by Philippe von Borries and Justin Stefano, co-founders and co-CEOs, Refinery29 is a digital media company providing lifestyle stories, original video programming, and social, shareable content across all platforms. It also offers tools to discover and pursue “a more independent, stylish, and informed life”.
The platform has 25 million monthly unique visitors.

The company currently employs 250 people with offices in New York and Los Angeles.
