Mommy Nearest Raises Additional $1M in Funding

mommynearestMommy Nearest, a New York, NY-based company behind a geo-location app and mobile community for parents and caregivers, raised an additional $1m in funding.

Backers were not disclosed.

The company, which has now raised $2.5m in total, will use the funds to expand operations to 5 additional markets by end of year, and launch Mommy Nearest for Business, a SaaS marketing platform for small businesses looking to connect directly with local parents on their mobile phones.

Led by CEO Josh Milstein, Mommy Nearest combines a national and local mobile parenting magazine with proprietary geo-location technology (free for iPhone and Android). The mobile app provides parents and caregivers with content and geography-based recommendations, to make informed decisions of where to take the kids from dining options to nearby activities. Places are rated and reviewed by other local parents. It features more than 40,000 original reviews of over 70,000 kid-friendly places nationwide.

Launched in 5 markets in 2014 (New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco), the platform has a mobile community of 160,000 parents.

Following a pilot program in 2014, Mommy Nearest for Business rolls out this month in New York City, San Francisco and Chicago, allowing local businesses and attractions to control their business page and send push notifications that feature promotions, discounts and happenings to Mommy Nearest users who opt in.
