MindMaze Closes $8.5M Funding Round

MindMaze, a Swiss neurotechnology company, closed an $8.5m funding round.

Backers were not named.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate commercialization of its neurotechnology engine.

Led by Dr. Tej Tadi, founder and CEO, MindMaze has been developing a virtual reality (VR), augmented reality and motion capture game system, MindLeap. Based on the company’s neurotechnology engine, which detects and predicts brain and muscle activity to trigger real-time immersive virtual experiences, MindLeap will facilitate neuro-powered immersive virtual and augmented reality on multiple games consoles and platform types, including XBOX, PlayStation, iOS and Android.
In the coming months, MindLeap’s engine will be available to game developers via an SDK and to gamers via a novel head mounted display (HMD), which consists of NeuroGoggles and 3D motion capture cameras.

MindLeap, which will be available in late 2015, builds on the company’s previous work in the medical field, where it has deployed no-latency VR to accelerate recovery for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological deficits. For instance, MindMaze can train amputees to control virtual and robotic limbs and help stroke victims rediscover motor functions.
