GelSight Closes Series A Financing Round

gelsightGelSight, Inc., a spin-out of MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), closed a Series A financing round.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

The round was led by Ping Fu, Founding CEO of Geomagic and current Chief Entrepreneur Officer at 3D Systems Corporation with participation from funds managed by Omega Funds.

The company intends to use the funds to facilitate production capacity and accelerate market penetration.

Founded in July 2011 and led by CEO Bill Yost, GelSight captures 3D information to reveal details that can not be observed by human eyes and provide accurate dimensional measurements to single-digit microns. This capability can be applied to industrial inspection, forensic visualization, micro-level data capture, science education, and many more commercially viable applications.
Customers include Fortune 100 companies as well as universities and government research centers in the US, Europe and Asia.

The company is based in Cambridge, MA.
