Team(You), Inc., a Los Angeles-based edtech company, closed a $500k seed funding round.
The round was led by Frank Byrne of Fifth Light Capital with participation from unnamed Wall Street and technology executives.
The company intends to use the funds to incorporate feedback from successful pilots, roll out a national teacher marketing plan, and hire staff.
Founded in 2013 by Cynthia Harrington, Team(You) provides schools with software to reinforce student positive behavior and allow teachers to integrate incentives into Common Core. Launched in 2014, the platform currently serves 1,400 students while a free trial for teachers is available at school.teamyou.co/trial.
It was tested in four sites, with improvements in attendance rates and engagement. Two of the sites were after school programs that ranged in ages from kindergarten to eighth grade. One of the sites was a charter school covering grades 6-12. The fourth is a pilot with a major food retail chain seeking to solve the problem of employee engagement.
