NoRedInk Secures $6M in Series A Funding

NoRedInk, a San Francisco-based education company, secured $6m in Series A funding.

The round was led by True Ventures with participation from The Social+Capital Partnership, Kapor Capital and ReThink Education. In conjunction with the funding, Jon Callaghan of True Ventures joined NoRedInk’s board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds to increase hiring and continue building tools.

Created by CEO Jeff Scheur, NoRedInk provides a platform for students to learn grammar and writing skills using their personal interests. the system generates sentences for students to manipulate and edit as they master difficult concepts in grammar, usage, mechanics, and style. The learning engine adapts to their strengths and weaknesses with tutorials and practice, then aggregates the data to allow teachers to make instructional decisions.
The company’s free product has been used by students who have answered more than 200 million questions on the site. Five months ago, it released NoRedInk Premium, which offers double the curriculum and an increased set of reporting tools.
Over 100 schools and districts are already paying for the service.
