Groupon (Nasdaq: GRPN), recently acquired Swarm Mobile, a San Francisco, CA-based company that provides an analytics and customer engagement platform for brick-and-mortar retail businesses.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
Founded in 2012 by Rudd Davis and Ryan Denehy, Swarm provides a line of smart devices utilizing Bluetooth, infrared and Wi-Fi technology that allow merchants to drive sales and create long-term relationships with consumers. The Swarm team will now work to enhance Groupon’s Local Commerce Platform and Merchant Operating System. They will join the MOS organization in San Francisco and will continue to develop its product portfolio and partner roster, including integrations with a number of point-of-sale providers.
