Blockchain Raises $30M Funding

blockchainBlockchain, a London, UK-based provider of a Bitcoin wallet, raised $30m in its first round of funding.

The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Wicklow Capital with participation from Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, Prudence Holdings, Future Perfect Ventures, and some angel investors.

The company intends to use the funds to improve core services and expand adoption.

Founded in 2011 and led by President Peter Smith, CTO Ben Reeves and CEO Nicolas Cary as a Blockchain explorer intended to allow Bitcoin users to study transactions and analyze the bitcoin economy, Blockchain currently is a bitcoin wallet provider managing 2.3 million accounts.
