Catawiki Raises €10M in Series B Funding

logo-catawikiCatawiki, a Assen and Amsterdam, the Netherlands-based online auction house, raised €10m in Series B funding.

The round was led by Accel Partners with participation from Project A Ventures, Booking.com’s former CMO Arthur Kosten and Dutch media and Internet entrepreneur Willem Sijthoff, an existing investor.

The company intends to use the funds to expand through Europe, extend the number of specialist auction categories available and build the online marketing team.

Founded in 2008 by René Schoenmakers (CEO) and Marco Jansen (CTO), Catawiki is a worldwide online auction house which unites buyers and sellers of items and collectibles. It has been hosting weekly auctions in 35 categories (comics, video games, antique cars and fine wine, etc.) allowing specialized auctioneers to supervise the auctions, and guaranteeing varied selections of auction lots. Recent sales have included first edition Tintin comics, Rembrandt etchings, dinosaur fossils and Jaguar E-Type sports cars. Currently operating in Belgium, Germany, France and The Netherlands, the company has 70 employees and 65 job openings (read here).
