Wakie Raises $1M in Funding

wakieWakie, a free app for real live human wake up calls through a community of people waking people, raised $1m in funding.

Backers included two Moscow-based venture capital firms, existing backer LETA Capital and new investor Titanium Venture Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to expand the service to an English-speaking audience.

Led by Hrachik Adjamian, CEO, Wakie is a free app for real live human wake up calls through a community of people waking people. The community includes Wakies (the wake up callers) and Sleepyheads (those getting woken up). A Sleepyhead sets an alarm through the app and when the wake-up time rolls around, the app connects them to a Wakie of a similar age and the opposite gender. The connection lasts one minute, the calls are encrypted and phone numbers are never shared.
The app, which is available for Android, Windows Phone, and (soon) iOS at www.wakie.com, is the English-language, international version of the wake up service from the makers of Budist, a Russian-language wake-up app that has facilitated 30 million wake up calls from 1.5m users.
