Wideo, Interview with Agu De Marco

agu-de-marcoBuenos Aires, Argentina-based Wideo has raised $460K from investors including: 500 Startups, NXTPLabs, and South Ventures (read our news here). CEO Agu De Marco joined us and answered our questions about the platform the team and the results of the company. He also says shared interesting things about Buenos Aires as a startup ecosystem.

FinSMEs: Hi Agu. First, can you tell us a little bit more about you? What’s your background?
Agu: I’ve always been an entrepreneur; I enjoy starting companies and seeing them take off. I’m really curious by nature, so that led me down this road. I realized others had this same mindset, which led me to start Emprending, a course that is part of University of Buenos Aires about entrepreneurship.

FinSMEs: Let’s speak about Wideo. What’s the opportunity you found in the market?
Agu: I was working on another one of my companies, Road2Argentina, I realized I wanted to make an explainer video, but I didn’t want to pay a high amount nor did we have time to learn to master tools like Adobe After Effects. I realized that other people must be in the same boat, and therefore the idea of Wideo was born.

FinSMEs: How does Wideo work? Tell me something about the features…
Agu: Anyone can use Wideo for free to create animated videos. We provide many templates and graphics to make it as simple as possible for anyone to make a video for any purpose. The tool is really easy to use – we don’t want to exclude someone who is not well-versed in videography. We created numerous tutorials and we have really strong customer service to help our users in any way possible.

FinSMEs: Can you introduce me the other team members?
Agu: Agus Esperon is our designer, who makes incredible images and templates that our users love. Jaoquin Ramos and Demian Squiersky are our analytical masters and product developers, who analyzes every aspect of our users and product. Cacho Sabre is our finance guru, who keeps us on track. And Su Moschovich is our marketing team member that helps us grow our user base.

FinSMEs: Where are you now in terms of growth? Some numbers?
Agu: Right now we have over 400K users registered in over 200 countries. We have about 2K paying customers, and our team is already up to 12 members.

FinSMEs: Last year, you participated in 500 Startup Accelerator. What did you learn from that experience?
Agu: I learned that to have success, you must have an excellent product. Without that, you will not be able to move forward as a company. Additionally, it’s so important to put a lot of resources towards distribution – that will make your company grow.

FinSMEs:…future plans?
Agu: We are improving the interface, and we’re constantly producing new templates. We’re also currently working on a new pricing structure and subscription model.

FinSMEs: you are based in Buenos Aires, a growing startup ecosystem. What can you tell me about it? Exciting?
Agu: Buenos Aires is booming for startups! We’re really connected with the startup community, and we see more and more innovative products stemming from here. We loved being in Silicon Valley, but we’re learning so much from companies in Buenos Aires, and we’re excited to see what else comes from this region.
