SKIT!, a Los Angeles, CA- and Boston, MA-based animated messaging app, raised $500k in seed funding.
Backers included Warner Bros, RMR Capital, Federal Street Angels and Cloud Power Seed Fund.
The company intends to use the funds to grow and update the apps on all platforms, as well as for increased marketing and business development.
Co-founded by Robin Johnson and Max Woon, SKIT! provides a smartphone and tablet app for people to create fun animated shorts — such as memes, remixes, etc. — from their own photographs and SKIT!’s backgrounds, props, and other objects. After choosing images, backgrounds and special effects, the creator voices and animates the skit by pressing a 20-second record button and share it with friends on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, text messaging, and with the whole SKIT! community.
The app is available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets and Kindle tablets.
