GemShare Raises $1.2M in Seed Funding

gemshare_logoGemShare, a San Francisco, CA-based service for sharing high-quality recommendations for services needed to manage busy life, raised $1.2m in seed funding.

Backers included Greylock Partners and Second Avenue Partners, with participation from Rich Barton (founder of Expedia and Zillow), Mika Salmi (CEO of creativeLIVE, former MTV exec), and Ellen Levy (managing director of Silicon Valley Connect, former vice president of LinkedIn).

Founded by Claudine Ryan, CEO, and Maryam Mohit, head of Product, GemShare focuses on gathering the best recommendations for the things users need to manage their daily life, all from their trusted network. It focuses on home improvement services, SAT tutors, orthopedic surgeons, marriage counselors, music and language instructors, trusted childcare.
Following a beta period, the company announced the nationwide availability for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
