Embrane, a Santa Clara, CA-based provider of application-centric network services, including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers and SSL offload engines, raised $14m in Series C funding.
The round was led by Cisco with participation from new backer Presidio Ventures and existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and North Bridge Venture Partners.
The company, which has raised $41m to date, intends to use the funds to increase its services, enhance its commercialization strategy and expand support for third-party virtual network service appliances.
Led by Dante Malagrinò, co-founder and CEO, Embrane provides solutions that enable enterprises and service providers to design data centers, including private/hybrid/public cloud environments, on per application basis, all managed from a single orchestration engine.
In addition to the funding, the company will deliver life cycle management for third-party network services, including the Cisco Adaptive Security Virtual Appliance (ASAv) and Sourcefire virtual appliances.
